Ruthanna Barnett

Ruthanna Barnett is a Solicitor in the Immigration Department and Supervisor of the Welfare Benefits Department. She works in the Oxford office.
She completed a PhD in Linguistics at Lancaster University, before obtaining her professional qualifications at the University of Central Lancashire and the Oxford Institute of Legal Practice. She joined Turpin & Miller LLP in September 2008 and trained at the firm.
She speaks Spanish and Hebrew.
After completing her PhD, Ruthanna worked with homeless services in the Lancaster area, then as Housing and Money Advice Caseworker at Lancaster CAB. Whilst studying part-time on the CPE and LPC, she managed Lancaster and District Women's Aid, supervising the advice work and developing the Independent Domestic Violence Adviser service in partnership with the local authority and the police.
Ruthanna has experience in homelessness, defending possession proceedings, and now works in the Immigration Department, dealing with all aspects of both immigration and asylum law. She has a particular interest in assisting women who have been subjected to violence, and in advising the LGBT community.
She also supervises the Welfare Benefits work in the firm, and is particularly interested in cases involving those subject to immigration control and their families, as well as EEA nationals.
Ruthanna qualified as Solicitor-Advocate (Higher Courts Civil Proceedings) and is a Level 2 Accredited Senior Caseworker.
