Turpin & Miller LLP is delighted to announce the promotion of two new salaried partners, Ruth Hawkins and Tom Giles
Ruth qualified in 1997 and joined Turpin & Miller LLP in August 2009 from another local firm. She is a solicitor in the Family Department specialising in children law and she manages the Private Law Family Team. She is a member of the Law Society's Children Panel, the Association of Lawyers for Children and Resolution.
Ruth has recently become a Director of Donnington Doorstep Family Centre in East Oxford, having been one of the Trustees that has overseen the Centre become a Charitable Limited Company, as well as advising on Child Safeguarding for Donnington Doorstep and Peachcroft Pre-School in Abingdon. She specialises in acting for parties, including parents and family members such as grandparents and aunts and uncles, as well as children (via their Guardians) in Care Proceedings and linked proceedings such as adoption; as well as retaining a matrimonial caseload.
She is rated in Chambers & Partners 2012 as a key individual who 'comes highly recommended for her private and publicly funded practice involving children issues, with sources commending her courteous and efficient manner'.
Tom trained with Turpin & Miller LLP and qualified in 2007. He is a solicitor in the Immigration Department and he manages the Detention and Asylum Team. Tom specialises in detained work and has extensive experience of bail, criminal deportation, judicial review and human rights work. Tom was the Solicitor for BA in BA (Nigeria) and PE (Cameroon) v Secretary of State for the Home Department  UKSC 7
