Housing and Homelessness

Our team and our services

HousingFind out how to contact members of our team here.

The housing team at Turpin & Miller is made up of dedicated staff of all levels of experience, from trainee solicitors to senior solicitors with over twenty years of experience. They share a common desire to provide the best quality of advice and service to all of our clients whether they are offering advice at the CAB or advocating at the high court.

Housing law is a wide area, encompassing issues such as anti-social behaviour orders and injunctions, disrepair, council and social housing issues, possessions (both mortgage and tenancy) and homelessness. Whether you think that you are going to be evicted, or are suffering with terrible conditions in your property we will provide the best possible advice to assist you.

The housing team offers a unique ‘drop in' service that enables people living in and around Oxford to come in to our offices without an appointment.

The housing team is funded almost exclusively under the Legal Aid Scheme. When a client comes to see us initially we will assess whether they are eligible for Legal Help (the first tier of Legal Aid). If a case becomes more complex or needs to be litigated, then we will apply for a full public funding certificate and the case is transferred to a qualified litigator.

You can see representatives of our housing team at Oxford County Court on Tuesday mornings where we occupy a small room on the first floor. The court duty scheme is funded by the Legal Services Commission, and provides help and support to those who have not had the benefit of legal advice prior to their court hearing. The representative can also come into the hearing with you and speak to the judge on your behalf. Under this scheme all people needing help can get help regardless as to their status or income.

Turpin & Miller are proud to have a positive relationship with many of Oxfordshire's Citizen's Advice Bureaus and advice agencies. We have a dedicated telephone line so that agencies can call us for legal advice on your behalf. If you have a complicated issue then we will ask you to come into our offices where we can open a file to positively assist you. There is a representative at the CAB on St Aldate's most Wednesday mornings; appointments for this can be booked through the CAB.
