Community Care (Social Services and Disabilities)
Find out how to contact members of our team here.
If you, or someone you care for, have a physical or learning disability, suffer from a mental health problem, sensory impairment, or the frailties of old age, you may be entitled to support from your local social services or health authority to help you to live as independently as possible in your own home or in residential accommodation. The help you need may range from adaptations to your home, assistance with personal and basic care in the home, to access to day care services or even respite care. Alternatively you may require the assistance of your social services authority in identifying a placement in a care home which properly meets all your needs.
The law in this area is complex and it is often unclear to people what their rights are.
We are an experienced team of solicitors who may be able to help you obtain the assistance to which you are entitled, whether by negotiation on your behalf with the relevant authority or by formally challenging an authority’s decision either through its Complaints Procedure, the Local Government Ombudsman or, in particularly complex or urgent situations, at the High Court by way of Judicial Review.
